Flora Fauna Series

The pieces in this series reference the organic matter of plant life. The forms do not reference a particular plant form, but they do give a sense of the flora and fauna in a natural setting, much like the forests in Upper Michigan where I spent much of my childhood play time.

The metals used in this series are sterling silver and 18k gold. They are hammered, formed, and forged. Granulation is added, stones are set, and many pieces also have pearls added. Finally, the pieces are patinated and sealed to protect the color.

Granulation is an ancient technique developed by artisans more than 5,000 years ago. It involves forming tiny metal spheres that are joined to the surface of the metal by a fusion process. The metal granules are reminiscent of the tiny dew drops you might see on plant leaves during an early morning walk through the forest.

Each piece in this series is unique because of the slight variations in size, shape, surface treatment, and placement of the granules and other stones. Enjoy wearing your piece as much as I enjoyed creating it for you.
