The inspiration for this series comes from what I often refer to as the distant shores of my youth; the beaches along the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. As a child, I spent countless hours on these beaches exploring and collecting treasures. Now, as an adult, I am fortunate to be able to return twice each year to the distant shores of my youth to collect the black pebbles used in this series.

     I take liberties with nature's creations by coring, drilling, and sometimes reshaping the pebbles. I also add sterling silver, and on some pieces, 18k gold to enhance the pieces. The metals are hammered or forged and soldered. The final step is the addition of precious or semi-precious stones and pearls.

     Each piece is unique because of the shape of the stone and the placement of the various added elements. The stones also darken with the absorption of body oils and lotions. It is a natural process; a way for the wearer to personalize each piece.
